Abstract
The following were resulted from the observation of biological nature of 209-Pstrain and erythromycin resistant strain especially of the factor participating on., the toxicity, the changing of antigenic specificity and the cross-resistance to the other, antibiotics.
1. Erythromycin resistant strains was rather delayed in carbohydrate fermentation than original strains and the degree of delay has a direct proportion to the resistance. Higher resistant microorganisms have a tendency to ferment solbit and dulcit.
2. Erythromycin resistant strain show lower hemolysin production compared ass that of stock strains.
3. Staphylocoagulase production and reduction of pigment ability are decreased in resistant strains.
4. The cross matching and resorption test of rabbit immune serum reveal no.
antigen specificity in resistant strains.
5. No cross resistance to such antibiotics asaureomycin, choromycetin terramycm achromycin and streptomycin is found in resistant strains.
6. The virulence presented by erythromycin resistant strains grow weak in mice and rabbits.
All of the above stated changes in biological and serological characteristics and virulence to living animals seem to have resulted from growth delay observed in resistant strains.
